Welcome to the Federated Church of Martha’s Vineyard!
When I was a boy in church school back in Nebraska, many, many years ago, we used to sing this wonderful song:
"I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together. All who follow Jesus all around the world, yes, we’re the church together. The church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is the people."
At the Federated Church in Edgartown, we still believe this is true! We, individually and collectively, are the Church! The church is about its people and what they are doing in the name of Christ, and although the Federated Church has a long and glorious history being founded on the Island in 1642, we celebrate our members in every generation.
We have a wonderful church school which teaches the children in this generation about the faith of forebears. Our Chancel Choir, under the direction of Peter Boak, takes a back seat to none, and they recently traveled to England and Scotland to sing in various locations. Our members take seriously the call to go into the community serves, as we provide leadership and support for Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, Martha’s Vineyard Literacy Program, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, Women’s Support Services, the Island Food Pantry, etc. just to name a few.
We are the body of Christ in this time and place as we remain an active and vital congregation here on Martha’s Vineyard. We are proud of our church! We hope you will come and join with us as we celebrate our oneness in Christ.
